2008 – ASAP Health

This is the motto for my Dad and family for this year - 2008 About Spiritual And Physical Health - it's a pretty catchy and clever name that my Dad came up with too!!

Anyway - we had our second major Christmas celebration over this past weekend, and while we were eating our big meal - we went around and told everyone our main resolutions for the New Year. Most of them (actually all of them) focused around spiritual and physical health... so we decided to make it a theme for the year.

As I already posted - John's family is working on a bet to see who can lose the most weight - and mine is working on a similar goal, but several members of my family don't need to lose any weight - they just need to get a little healthier.

My sister, Cindy, who is our resident nutrition specialist... found a book called You: Staying Young: The Owners Manual for Extending Your Warranty by Dr. Michael F. Roizen and Dr. Mehmet C. Oz (the doctor from Oprah).

We're all buying it to read (Cindy has already started) and in the book they talk about your real age versus your calendar age. This basically is the idea that your body can be at a very different place in your life than your calendar age would suggest.

They have a test on RealAge.com - and mine for instance shows that my calendar age is 29.6, but my real age is 31.7... based on the answers that I gave in the questionnaire, it sent me a 90 day plan that lays out specific ways that I can lower my real age.

I highly recommend everyone taking the test - it can be a great way to change your New Year's resolution into something real... the test is very comprehensive - it covers everything from your nutrition, workouts, spirituality, and even your friends and driving habits. It's a very interesting look at your health and your lifestyle... we can all do this together and make a huge difference in our lives and our health.

  1. I've been wanting to read that book! I'll have to add it to my queue for books by mail from the local library. I'll take the real age test and post the results when I get a chance.

  2. I was rather relieved to find out that I am only a year older than my actual age! I had taken that test once before when I was still smoking. Now that I've quit, my numbers are much better!
