Burst My Bubble

Ok, so I'll admit - I bought into the line "muscle weighs more than fat" hook line and sinker - because I need to believe that there is some logical reason why I am doing all this work and not getting any results on the scale... but then the other Kim mentioned that she heard Jillian Michaels talk about this issue on her podcast... and ya'll - I did some research.

I feel so dumb... and well frustrated because what in the WORLD is wrong with my body? It makes me absolutely crazy - and my doctor doesn't seem to think there is a problem... can anyone spell frustrating?!

Houston, we have a problem... a big one... what's the deal?

On top of that - I'm hanging my hat on the fact that I sincerely pray that Donna, Laurie and Heather are right in that my lower carbohydrate intake is the reason why my workouts are killing me.... ya'll I tried to do level 7 tonight and even had to back it down some... I was really hurting! Not to mention sweating profusely... which is weird... I mean yes, I sweat with this program... but not THAT much.

Anyone have any pearls of wisdom on this one for me?

  1. I don't have any wisdom really on this..., but I have read an awesome book on weight and weight loss once, called The Only Diet There Is by Sondra Ray..., she's the author of many more books in the field of self help.

  2. I know your frustration Kim, and I really do feel your pain. If you really feel like something is wrong, then you need to stand your ground. Print out your food journal, log your exercise thenn go back to your doctor and show exactly what you are doing. Doctors have a tendency to believe only 2/3rds of what patients are saying when it comes to diet and exercise -- it's an unfortunate, reality.

What puzzles me is that you already have hormonal issues -- that's a known fact. Couldn't it just be possible that something is out of whack?

Second, if your doctor just isn't listening to you, seek other opinions.

I would start with addressing your hormonal stuff with a new Endo. You've got to get that stuff straightened out before having a baby, anyway, so having a 2nd opinion won't hurt. I am so grateful another post-op sent me to Dr. Brown at Houston Endocrinology Associates. He was the first of 3 different Endo's to say "Yes, there's a problem." Granted I'm a work in progress right now but I feel like things are improving.

Call me if you want to talk about Dr. Brown.

  3. I agree with Donna. I have another friend struggling as well, and I really believe it's her hormonal and thyroid issues, which you have both as well, right? If you aren't 100% confident in your endo that you're going to, find a new one that you are comfortable with. Dr. W is not comfortable with hormone stuff unfortunately.. I give him my labwork results from my ob/gyn just so he has complete records on me, but that's all he deals with on that. Maybe ask about Epstein Barr/chronic fatigue syndrome too... I tire easily too sometimes and I know when I have these issues, it's probably active in me at the time. Hope this helps. Hang in there, and don't lose hope! If you're doing everything right, there has to be something out of balance, ie. hormones most likely!

  4. I don't know a whole lot about hormonal things (sounds like not a lot of doctors do either) but our friends may be on to something. I'd say maybe you should at least consult with a physician and see if they offer any advice.

I wish I could be of more help, I just don't know much about this stuff. It's easy to blame it on the carbs, but it could possibly be more than that. I'd much rather you get it "fixed" than have to deal with this constantly.

I'll try anything to help, just let me know!!!
