Keepin It Real

Every once in a while, life with toddlers smacks you in the face a little bit. Some days are much worse than others...

Today, I felt like we were really doing well. The boys played well, and actually were doing great. After naps & lunch - we headed off to Kroger to get a couple of things for me mainly. (Momma is starting to take melatonin tonight - which is a whole other post)

We hit Sonic Happy Hour, and then came home to finish up our afternoon with some more play time. Everything went so well... we had dinner, and the baths went perfectly. Tonight was a solo parenting night because John had a work dinner...

Anyway, we come downstairs after baths - start their bedtime routine with our Baby Einstein movies and some milk. Tyler finishes off his milk - then like something straight out of the Exorcist - he proceeds to cover himself, me, and the living room in the entire contents of his stomach. If you know Tyler, you know that this kid can pack away the food... so lets just say that it was shocking.

With John gone... I had no one to hold off the toddlers - who think that vomit is better than playing in a swimming pool - figuring out a way to keep them out of it while I get supplies to clean it all up... I started yelling for them to stay away.

I got it cleaned up, all the while yelling for them to stay back... we have some down time - more milk - and then it's time for bed. I put James in his room with his toys while I went to get Tyler to bed... got him down - went in and put James to bed... came out and Tyler was in hysterics... so I spent the better part of an hour and 6 tries to get him in bed... before John got home.

I came straight down and had one of the biggest ugly cries known to Moms in the kitchen. So here is where I level with you. There are days that they just whip me. Days where I don't know if I have it in me to do it again the next day. Days where I feel like the biggest failure. Days where I think that there just isn't enough money to save for their therapy later in life.

Sometimes I wonder what God is thinking. I'm not a good enough mother to have two toddlers at once. I love my boys with every thing that I have... but I feel like I fail them more often than not. Which makes me sad. I want to be everything they need - and often I just don't feel like I am. I struggle to keep up.

Maybe it's the lack of sleep I've had over the last few weeks... I can't tell you for sure, but the harder I try to get life under some sort of control - the more it feels like it spins right out of my grasp. Something is off, I know that - and I'm doing my best to try to figure out what it is... I need a break so that I can feel better while trying to manage this world of toddler crazy.

S is for Story

I guest posted this one Love to the Moon and Back Again yesterday... but I think that it's never bad to reintroduce yourself to your readers. So... I'm reposting it here for you today. Additionally, don't forget to enter the Lotsa Dots Giveaway!!

Also, here are some of my favorite old posts that I've written over the last few years.

Alright, without further delay...

First, my name is Kim and I'm the author behind Faith Grace & Giggles - where things can be funny, crazy, and messy... but we do our best to keep it real.

I am a Christian. Wife. Mother. Daughter. Sister. Sister in Law. Aunt. Friend. Weight Loss Surgery survivor. Infertility survivor. Adoptive Mother. Former NICU parent. Writer. Stay at Home Mother. Scentsy Consultant. Stella & Dot Stylist. Cook. Baker. Reader. Photographer. Pet Lover. Retired Database Manager. and Social Media junkie. The last one is really a means of outlet because I spend 80% of my day with two littles that don't talk much yet.

Lets dig a little deeper into some of these, shall we?

I'm a Christian above all else, because I've learned that without God - I'm not any good at any of the other things in my life. I almost lost my marriage before finding my Savior, and was unable to see a light at the end of a long infertility battle... with my faith - I was able to find resolution to both of those.

I'm a wife to my amazing husband, John. We met online about 13 years ago when I was still in college... married 3 years later, and just celebrated our 10th Anniversary last month. We struggled for 8 years with infertility... so we had a long time to grow as a couple and become a true team before our family grew to what it is today.

I'm a mother to James (23 months) & Tyler (17 months). We had a failed adoption placement just 2 months before becoming parents. James was our precious gift given to us by God through adoption. The day we signed his adoption papers at the hospital and brought him home - we found out that we were pregnant. Six short months later, Tyler joined our family... and these two give me a run for my money every single day! They are polar opposites in just about every way - which is challenging, but I wouldn't trade any of it for a minute.

The daughter part is fairly obvious - so we'll move to sister. I became the middle child at the ripe old age of 25 - for the first 25 years of my life - I had two older sisters, Cathi & Cindy. At 25, my Dad & stepmother adopted two babies from Guatemala - and I became the older sister to my brother and little sister: Josh & Gabby.

John also has a sister, who I love dearly... and then I have 3 brother in laws that are wonderful! Additionally, we have 5 gorgeous nieces ranging from 16-4.

I've got some dear friends in my life. People that really are more family than just friends. Sadly, we moved away from most of the people we love last June, and meeting new folks has been slow going here in TN. I'm starting to find some lovely ladies to spend a little time with around here - and I'm sure by the time we move back to TX - I will be sad to leave them too.

In 2007, I had a gastric bypass - which was the reason I started my blog in the first place. I would do it all over again every day of my life - I believe it what it allowed for my future. Would I say that I reached every goal that I set out - not at all. I did not lose all my weight, but I was able to essentially cure my diabetes and blood pressure issues. Since having a baby they are creeping back up a bit, BUT they are far more manageable now.

I mentioned before I suffered through 8 years of infertility and all that comes along with that. In September 2009 - we were told by our reproductive endocrinologist that they couldn't help us. That we'd never have a child biologically. While that was the most unbearable thing to hear - I was okay. It opened the door for our adoption... and so much more!

I'm also a former NICU parent. Tyler spent 12 days in the NICU when he was born, and it was really hard. It was a struggle, but I couldn't have been more grateful for the resources and care that we were given - and I've got a healthy 17 month old boy thriving because of the little bit of extra help that he needed and received at birth.

I sell Scentsy and Stella & Dot to help make a bit of extra money for bills and activities for the kids. I am currently working on getting us a membership to the Children's Museum here in town for us to enjoy during those hot summer days when the Zoo just isn't feasible. I'd be thrilled to help you host a blog or catalog party for either one - and earn free products in return if you're interested.

I love trying out new recipes... and do it almost daily if possible. I write a recipe blog called Momma Hawk Cooks - to share our recipes, but also to keep them handy so that I can access them anywhere. I've got a dog and a cat... love taking pictures of our family... love writing... and so much more!

Lotsa Dots Giveaway

Have you heard of the awesome products sold by independent consultants for Thirty-One? I fell in love with their products just before Tyler was born. I love having things monogrammed or personalized and this allows for the boys to have these things for school - which will make my life easier to figure out which bag goes with which child.

I got the Large Utility Tote for Christmas in 2010 - with our Last Name monogrammed on the side. Our pattern isn't available anymore... but this thing holds EVERYTHING! I use it for our trips back to Texas the most because I can fit most of the boys' feeding supplies in the one bag which makes it easier on me! At $30 - it truly is a life saver!

We also got a set of these for the boys last February - they haven't used them yet, but I couldn't resist for family movie nights or even naps at school... these About Town Blankets are just too cute. Ours are another out of stock pattern in maroon... which for my future Aggies - is PERFECT. They've got their names across the front of them and at $39, I thought they were a great value for the price.

I've got my eye on a few other things for the boys as they move to their own classes at MDO next fall, and will need: backpacks, lunch boxes, and nap mats! They're getting too big for me!

Lets get down to the fun part, a group of ladies have gotten together and are hosting a big online catalog party... you can shop ALL of the fabulous 31 products by going - HERE - Pam has lined up a giveaway for every day of this week, so check out her blog through that link to get to all of the giveaways!

Additionally, Britt, is hosting a giveaway today as well, and is also one of the masterminds behind this fabulous week of giveaways and the catalog party. So you can stop by her blog today: enter her giveaway, and make purchases for other Thirty One items.

My fabulous friend, Amanda, is doing the giveaway for us on this little corner of the web. She is giving away this fabulous Organizing Utility Tote in the Lotsa Dots pattern... (can I be honest, I REALLY want this for myself...)

Before we get to the entries and details of the giveaway - Amanda would love for me to tell you that anyone who books their own online party between April 1st - 15th will get an extra special gift. The FIRST person to book their party will get a Mini Utility Bin for FREE!!

Want to get entered? Alrighty... here we go. I'm going to draw a winner on Wednesday - March 21st at midnight. Good LUCK!

Wordless Wednesday

For the most part... here are some photos of the boys and animals from the last couple of weeks:

Just a little something to keep you occupied while I'm getting poked and prodded at the doctor this morning. I'll post more as soon as I can about my visit for the migraines.

Vlog Linkup 2

I'm linking up with the House of Rose again today to share a little bit of Wednesday craziness. The sound and the video are a bit off still, but I'm working on getting it all together. Sorry for my total amateur video, but that's how I roll.

I hope you enjoyed that, and I'll try to have something better to tell you about next week.

Melting Pot Launch

An amazing friend of mine through MOPS is the manager of our local Melting Pot restaurant, and each month they host an even called Ladies Night Out. They have a special menu and drink specials geared toward Ladies. Additionally, they have local vendors come in and sell their products to the guests.

I promoted the event as best as I could - without really knowing that many people in the area. They had a relatively good turn out at the event too - and I had a great time. Here is my set up all ready to go - sorry for the glare on the jewelry - the sun was setting right through the window.

Scentsy all set up

Stella & Dot all set up

I got there to set up at about 4... and they opened at 5. We were done at 11. I'm BEAT today - my legs and shoulders are reminding me that I'm not used to that sort of thing.

The parties are still going on my websites - for a couple of more days - and I'd be honored if you'd consider making a purchase as a part of the party. I had a giveaway of a full sized warmer and two scent bars for Scentsy for the people in attendance last night, and a set of bracelets in a storage box for Stella & Dot - but I'm going to do another giveaway of 2 scents of your choice for anyone that makes a purchase online in the next 24 hours.

To shop Scentsy - click here - and remember there is a whole new catalog with the Spring/Summer scents as well as our new bath & laundry product line called, Layers. Additionally, if you'd like to be added to my monthly newsletter list - you can also comment with your name and email address.

To shop Stella & Dot - click here - there are some great sales this month, but just remember to choose Melting Pot as your party host at close out.

I am honored by every single purchase, and can promise you that any commissions that I make right now are going toward getting the boys a membership to the Children's Museum to enjoy for a year! I would love to take them to play and expand their minds through playing at our local museum - especially this summer when it will be a bit too hot to go to the Zoo.

Why I Blog

There are so many reasons why each of us choose to share our lives on the internet, and for me - what started for one reason has evolved into so much more than I could have imagined.

I started writing this little blog of mine, my focus was on having weight loss surgery. I wanted to journal my experience for family and friends... and have a record for myself of the changes and things that I went through in the process between having surgery and recovery.

Once we got through the weight loss surgery focused part of our lives, life evolved into our struggle with infertility taking center stage for a while. We battled with this much longer than is chronicled here, but the most intense part of the journey is documented here - along with the days after hearing that the doctors couldn't help me.

Our adoption journey is here, along with the craziness of finding out we were pregnant at the same time as our adoption going through... and the insanity of having two baby boys at home while going through a major job transfer with John's job. Then the transformation from working Mom to stay at home Mom.

It's all here - my 2007 to today. It's crazy how much my life has changed while blogging!

Additionally, I've always loved to write - it's therapy for me. I can put it out on paper (or the interwebs) while it's fresh in my mind and it just makes me feel better to process through my thoughts this way. I know there are folks out there that don't understand why I want to put myself out there like I do, but those usually are people that don't write or understand the beauty of social media.

I know that one of those folks is also one of my most loyal readers... my Dad. He doesn't understand or necessarily agree with putting it all out there, but at the same time loves to read. HA!

For me, one of the biggest joys that I found in this process was connecting with readers. I never anticipated that through blogging, I would develop some deep and meaningful relationships with other ladies out there going through some of the same things as me. At first it was my AMAZING "cut & paste" girls that helped cheer me through the weight loss surgery journey. Then, I met some truly remarkable ladies through the infertility journey - ladies that walked with me, prayed with me, and shared their journeys with me. Now, I find comfort knowing that I'm going through some of the same things as other ladies out there.

Bottom line, I don't blog for any other reason than for my own enjoyment. The fact that anyone reads - which I think is few and far between... is just an amazing bonus. Why do you blog? More importantly, why do you come around here and read what I have to say?

Photo a Day - Week 8 & 9

I missed last weekend, and I can't even remember why - I think I just never had a chance to get on the computer. I'm desperately trying to not use my laptop when the boys are awake right now because I had to have some warranty work on it recently because of them pushing it over and messing with it one too many times. I find that because of this and my exhaustion when they go to bed at night - I rarely get on the laptop at night either. I'm trying to find my balance... and as usual, I'm failing miserably at that.

February 19 - I made my boys some Rice Krispies Treats because they love them, and I really enjoy making them happy.

February 20 - My oldest niece's 16th birthday - she is a big Starbucks fan, so I had one in her honor since we couldn't be together.

February 21 - My Dad's birthday... but also the day that we got "Allie" the cat! She is such a sweetie, and settled in quickly.

February 22 - Allie truly was completely at home and relaxed in less than 24 hours of being with us here... she makes me laugh!

February 23 - My 10th wedding anniversary!! So hard to believe we've been married this long - for this anniversary, Momma got her first Coach purse & wallet!! WAH HOO! John is such an amazing man, and I'm blessed to be his partner for life. I'm ready for whatever the next 10 years brings!

February 24 - I took the boys on our first outing to the park by ourselves. They had a great time, and we managed to get in and play without losing anyone or getting anyone hurt!

February 25 - Daddy had to work all day on Saturday - so we tried to pack in some fun activities. Only Mommy didn't get the memo to use FREEZER bags for the finger paint activity - and it was short lived because we busted the paint out!

February 26 - I typically do my most labor intensive cooking on Sundays... which means baking and fresh meals that aren't prepped ahead and baked later... I had some extra crescent roll dough and an apple... so presto - mini apple pies that we had with some ice cream!!

February 27 - While the boys were napping, I laid down with Allie... it was short lived as we quickly were on our way to the pediatrician for two sets of: strep swabs in the throat, flu swabs up the nose, and blood work... only to find out that both boys had a "red throat" and a virus. (Can I get an amen that VIRUS is the worst word ever for a Momma to hear from the pediatrician?!)

February 28 - I made a childhood favorite of mine for dinner - Swiss Steak, Mashed Potatoes, and Fresh Green Beans. It was amazing, and such great soul food for me. I will post the recipes on Momma Hawk Cooks as soon as I can.

February 29 - We took it easy and played with our toys most of the day on Wednesday. Momma put us in the car in our jammies to go get a Starbucks and a Sonic because she knew it was going to be a LONG day... she was right, and the drinks were helpful.

March 1 - John had to stay home with the boys because Tyler was still very sick. I had a party to give for my businesses, and once I was home - John did a little yard work, and I took the boys out to play on their swing set.

March 2 - I got very ill on Friday, so I allowed this to happen with the toys. I literally just gave up and let them do whatever they wanted to... because Momma was a puky mess.

March 3 - This cracks me up - Allie and I were resting during nap time yesterday... and I guess I was talking too much during what she deemed "quiet time"
